Matt joined the business as Showroom Manager following the launch of our new Ponsford showroom. Bringing with him a fresh perspective, a strong customer focus, and a real passion for fires, fireplaces, stoves, and media walls.

Originally from Colorado in the USA, Matt moved to the UK five years ago and now calls Sheffield home.

From Colorado to Sheffield

Matt moved to the UK so his wife could be closer to home. Before joining Mansfield Fireplaces, he worked in furniture sales and spent years as a professional ghostwriter. After relocating to Sheffield, he managed several running stores across the city, which is why many Ponsford customers already recognise him from the local running community.

Matt did not set out to work in the fireplace industry. The decision came after visiting the Mansfield Fireplace and Stove Centre showroom as a customer.

What stood out straight away was the standard of work, the quality of the products, and the welcoming atmosphere. When the opportunity arose to manage the new Sheffield showroom, it felt like the right fit.

A real connection to fires and stoves

Although Matt did not work in the fireplace industry in the US, fires have always been part of his life.

Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, his family home was heated by a wood burning stove. Later, in Colorado, some of his favourite memories were sitting by the fire with his wife while snow fell outside.

That emotional connection matters. It is something Matt sees every day when helping customers choose fireplaces, stoves, and media wall fires for their own homes.

Like many Sheffield homeowners, Matt and his wife live in a new build property where a log burning stove was not practical. They went through the same process many customers face, finding a realistic and convenient alternative that still delivers warmth and atmosphere.

That experience helps Matt guide customers honestly and realistically.

Almost everything in the showroom is British made. Installations are carried out by Mansfield Fireplaces’ own in-house team. Customers are never passed from company to company. The process begins and ends with the same people.

Life in Sheffield outside the showroom

Learning to drive on the wrong side of the road was a challenge, especially when it came to roundabouts.

Beyond that, Matt loves Sheffield. The people are warm, the culture is down to earth, and the city feels welcoming. British food has been a pleasant surprise, and after years of constant sunshine in Colorado, even the rain has its charm.

Outside of work, Matt enjoys time with his wife and stepson. He also likes to go running in the Peak District, and trying to keep up with a very energetic Bengal cat.

It is safe to say he feels at home.
