Our First Month at Ponsford: Media Walls, Fires, and Lots of New Customers

It has been just over a month since we opened our new Mansfield Fireplace & Stove Centre showroom at Ponsford in Sheffield. In that short time we have welcomed hundreds of homeowners through the doors, many of them visiting specifically to see our bespoke media walls in Sheffield and the range of fires we now display in the store.

A lot has happened in those first few weeks, so I thought I would share some of what we have seen so far. Some of the trends were exactly what we expected, while a few things genuinely surprised us.

Media Walls and Marble Fireplace Surrounds are Grabbing Attention

There are two things I can count on when a customer first walks into the Ponsford showroom. The first is that they stop to admire the two media walls you can see immediately when you enter.

The Virgo, with its floating base and LED underlighting, almost always gets an appreciative look. It is sleek and modern, perfect for impressing anyone who passes by. When you get closer you can appreciate the walnut fluting and the elegant white Dekton that sits on top of the base.

In the same way, I have noticed that many visitors are drawn to the Portland wall that is visible from the furniture area. It is a completely different take on bespoke media walls in Sheffield, with its traditional stove look and bespoke cupboards. Visitors tend to say that it creates a perfect blend of convenience and a country cottage feel.

Even though those two media walls sit on opposite ends of the style spectrum, they both work brilliantly as conversation starters.

The second thing I can count on is that someone will stop in their tracks at the Chesney marble fireplace surround - This is visible from outside the store. It is probably best suited for a classic Victorian home, but in the right setting it is nothing short of stunning.

Sheffield Loving Our Real Wood Burning Fires

There is nothing quite like the look and feel of a real flame, and we sell and install many wood burning stoves through our Mansfield showroom. Even so, it has surprised me just how many Sheffield homeowners have or want the same.

I probably should have expected more interest. After all, we are the only authorised Charnwood dealers in Sheffield. These high quality British made stoves are renowned for their build quality and efficiency, so it is only natural that customers would come to us looking for the best.

Along with the wood burning stoves themselves, we have already worked with customers on new flue systems, upgraded brick chambers, and raised hearths. It is great to see so many people bringing the warmth and character of a real fire into their homes.

Many Gas for Electric Fire Swaps

Gas fires still have their place, but you cannot beat inset electric fires for convenience. As in Mansfield, many of our customers come into the Sheffield showroom to explore replacing an existing or condemned gas fireplace with a modern electric alternative.

They are often pleasantly surprised to learn that making the change is usually straightforward. In many cases we can cap off the gas supply, remove the old fire, and install a new electric fireplace in a single day.

Even better, this can often be done without changing the existing fireplace surround.

We still install and replace gas fires of course, and not everyone wants to go electric. However, if you want something that is beautiful, convenient, and gives you the option of enjoying a flame effect with or without heat, an electric fire can be a perfect solution.

A Happy Surprise: A Very Busy Sheffield Showroom

I would not quite put this into the category of unexpected developments, but we have had a very positive welcome from the Ponsford staff, the store’s existing customers, and the Sheffield community as a whole.

Many visitors to the showroom have said we make a great addition to the Ponsford tradition of quality. Several people have mentioned seeing our television advertising or being familiar with our social media posts that feature completed media wall installations.

We have also had customers travelling specifically to see our media walls in Sheffield from places like Doncaster, Barnsley, Rotherham, and across South Yorkshire.

It is great to offer people a place where they can meet us, see the quality of our fireplaces and bespoke media walls in person, and talk through their ideas for transforming their living space.

All in all, it has been a brilliant first month at Ponsford. We are looking forward to welcoming many more Sheffield homeowners into the showroom in the months ahead.
